I've been using grocery store garlic for as long as I've been cooking. I never realized how bad it was until I got some of the real stuff. No photograph can capture the explosive flavor of these cloves, purchased at the St. Paul Farmers' Market.
At the Tuesday market, only one grower was selling garlic. It was a little pricy, but I was happy to be able to get some.
One of these days, I'll get around to growing my own.

The first week of October is an excelent time to plant garlic.
Hi, I noticed at Gardens by the Lake that you are in my neck of the woods. I also love the garlic I buy at the St Paul farmer's market. Since you mentioned it was pricy, I wonder if you bought it from the man who charges $2.50/head? There is a farmer who sells it on the weekend, it's more reasonable. I've been tempted to buy him out. Next year, try buying some garlic early in the season (from the market), before it is dried. It's amazing. The rib photos look great - I've read about that guy.
Wow, that's expensive. I paid $2.00 for three bulbs.
