Growing Community
While not abandonded, my garden has taken a back seat to a community building effort that some neighbors and I have been working on since Spring. Paint the Pavement is the brainchild of Andrea Erickson, who was inspired by the work of City Repair in Portland.
After months of neighborhood meetings and brainstorming and getting all our ducks in a row, we painted our intersection on Saturday, September 9th. About 200 people turned out. Nobody thought to keep an exact count of the number of people who painted, but I'm guessing that at least 100 people took a turn painting.
All told, we covered 2,500 square feet of intersection with traffic marking paint to make our design.
Local blogger Kevin Hendricks put up some photos on Flickr.
