Sunday Survey 2


Dandelions are beginning to bloom. Ugh. Now for the fun stuff:

Serviceberry (photo above)

UPDATE: This shrub was labeled as a blueberry when I bought it, but thanks to an alert reader, I now know that it is a Serviceberry.

I think the photo above is Serviceberry (Amelanchier). They are also called Juneberry because that's when they get their edible berries. I love that plant- some grow to 20 feet (depends on variety)

It wouldn't surprise me to find out that it is serviceberry, but it was labeled as a blueberry when I bought it. Wish I still had the label.

The berries are blue. One of my friends suspects that it might be the result of some cross breeding.

Go ahead and Google "Blueberry flower" and then look up "Serviceberry flower" ...you'll see they're completely different. Your flower is a serviceberry- and they also have berries that are blue and yummy...they taste kinda like a blueberry.

Okay, I'm convinced. But honest, the tag said blueberry.
