Fair Night

I love being at the State Fair as dusk gives way to night. My daughter and I took the Sky Ride across the fairgrounds to the Midway, where we blew through a couple of sheets of ride tickets. Didn't win any prizes. I couldn't get two plates to break on consecutive pitches, and neither of us could get a bottle to stand up. That barker sure made it look easy, though.

I'm not much of one for crowds, but it was fun to walk around with my daughter. There's maybe another year that she'll want me along.

James Lileks has a lovely post and video up at buzz.mn about being at the Kidway with his daughter, who is probably 6 or 7 years younger than my daughter.

Thanks, Roger. Yes, the Fair is a blast. And then it's gone, kids go back to school, and we prepare for the deep freeze.

The fair is made for sharing with kids - I miss that - mine are grown and doing the fair on their own. Deep freeze - hate to think about it!
